Environment Design for Thesis Film West Lake Dream:
This scene happened in an underwater environment with Chinese traditional aesthetics. I chose the fake mountain and water plants from old Chinese 2D underwater animation to indicate the space and aesthetics.
In the ancient time, literati highly appreciated nature. They wanted to present everything in heaven and earth in their garden. The fake mountain denoted real grand mountains. It became a popular symbol in traditional gardens. In big fish tanks, it also appeared. Thus I chose the fake mountain to suggest the aesthetic as well as the underwater environment.
For the water plants, one was commonly used in tanks for goldfish. Others were from the movie Baby Tadpoles Look for Their Mother, which was the first Chinese ink animation and won many international awards. The choice of the plants was also dedicated to the Chinese pioneer animators.
Environment Design for 24 Hours Generate Competition:
This story was about a snake trainer traveling worldwide to collect snake power to save the world. This scene described his journey in the West Lake of China, where he encountered the White Maiden (the big human-head snake in the picture). The White Maiden was from the Legend of the White Snake, which was about the unusual love story between Xu Xian, a human pharmacist and the White Maiden, a snake spirit. The legend was one of the four most well-known legends of China.
